Woman's body found on M66 after car crash in Bury overnight

POLICE have launched an investigation after a car crashed into a woman's body on the M66 in Greater Manchester overnight.

The collision unfolded on the northbound motorway in Bury about 2am.

Greater Manchester Police are now working to figure out how the woman's body came to be on the road.

A spokesperson said: "Shortly after 2am this morning, police were called to reports that a car had collided with a body on the M66 Northbound in Bury.

"Emergency services attended and sadly found the body of a woman.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish how the woman came to be in the carriageway."

The M66 Northbound is currently closed from junction 1 to 3.

Highways England have reported delays of up to an hour, with traffic officers at the scene.
