My 10-week-old son slept 12 hours every night - here's my three tips for getting your kid to go thro

A DAD has taken to TikTok to share his three easy tips for getting your child to sleep through, after admitting his son rests for up to 12 hours every night.

Jared, known online as @theoneprouddad, regularly shares parenting tips with his 4,400 followers.

In a new video, the dad-of-one shares how he and his husband trained their son to sleep through the night from when he was just 10 weeks old.

He shared his three key tips - including putting your child in their own room from the start.

“People are always amazed that our son Oliver was sleeping 10 to 12 hours at night by the time he was 10 weeks old.

“Never had a sleep regression, and still has not once woke up in the middle of the night needing our attention, and he’s 18 months old.

“So I think it’s time to let you guys in on some of the secrets of what we did that I think helped make this a reality.”

The first thing Jared recommends to his followers is the book, Twelve Hours Sleep By Twelve Weeks Old, by Lisa Abidin and Suzy Giordano.

This is available from various retailers, with prices starting as low as £5.

Jared claims this gave them a ‘good foundation’ to go off before trying to sleep-train their son.

He then goes on to explain his other tips, which include putting their son to sleep in his full-sized crib, in his own room, from the start.

“I can go on and go about this topic, about what I think we did that worked.

“But some of the biggest things were, number one, from day one, Oliver always slept in a full-sized crib in his own room.

“Of course, we had a monitor, but I think him being in the environment where he would pretty much always be sleeping - a full-sized crib, his own room - it really helped him get used to it and reduce the amount of change that he would experience in the future as he started to get older and eventually become a toddler.

“But beyond that, feeding was also really important.

“So the amount of food we fed him during the day, also the schedule that he was on with feeding.

“How we weaned him from smaller to bigger bottles during the day, as well as weaned him off of his night-time bottles really made a huge difference.

“And having a plan, sticking to it, [and] being consistent with that plan is really important.

“So that’s why I recommend Twelve Hours by Twelve Weeks because again it gives you the tools to be able to make your own plan.

“We didn’t follow it to a T, but we did follow it pretty closely and there were certain areas where we modified it to make it work for Oliver and our family.

“And I do believe that it is one of the main reasons why he is such a good sleeper to this day.”

Jared’s suggestions attracted plenty of attention, with the video gaining more than 43,000 likes and 819,000 views.

In the comments, his followers shared their thoughts, with one writing: “My 10 wk old sleeps 7-10, then 1030-7 am. It's so nice & we are so similar things that you did! Just went to Hawaii for a week & he slept perfectly!”

A second said: “I have five kids, including twins. Sleep trained all of them. All slept 10-12 hrs by 12-16 weeks. It is possible.”

Although not all were fans, with one parent commenting: “Ridiculous. So dangerous, goes against all safe sleeping. Poor baby.”
