A MUM came up with a novel way to store her kids’ messy shoes which were always left on the stairs - and it didn’t cost her a penny.
She was tired of her children dumping their shoes all over the staircase, so she looked up bespoke stair baskets to try and keep everything organised.

But after seeing they cost around £40, she decided to make one herself out of old cardboard she had lying around.
She measured the stairs to create an L-shaped basket, to perfectly fit her staircase, and used glue and fabric to give the basket a Mary Poppins theme.
After finally managing to solve the problem of scattered shoes, she said she was “chuffed” with her handiwork.
She shared her idea to Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, where more than 1,000 people have liked her post.

She said: “The little ones shoes were taking over the stairs and when I googled stair baskets they were all £40 plus!!
“I used a cardboard box, PVA glue and fabric fat quarters from my stash, to make a Mary Poppins themed storage box, fitted to our stairs. [sic]
“Cost £0 as I had everything in the house.
“Not perfect by any stretch but I’m chuffed with it.”

Her idea has inspired other mums to create their own boxes, rather than forking out for pricier pre-made versions.
One person said: “Omg you clever thing! I want 4 of those stair boxes and the cost put me off. I know what to do now! I need to Save some boxes!!!”
Another wrote: “Omg never even entered my mind to make my own thanks for the fab idea!!”

A third said: “Fantastic well done you”
Someone else thought: “Fab idea! The stars often become a dumping ground so a box to keep it tidy Is a good idea. Looks really good.”
While this person added: “Chuffed you should be. Well done and thanks for sharing.”
