A MUM couldn’t believe her fries when she opened a bag of McCain Smiles — and instead of happy faces was confronted with scary grimaces.
Laura Basch, 33, was cooking the potato snack faces for her 18-month-old daughter Amelia’s tea.
She said: “The smile was scary. They’re like aliens and demons. They’re not the usual smiley faces that she loves.”
Laura added: “Amelia loves them usually. She demolishes them easily. But when I got them out, I was stunned.
“The first one had this menacing look — and then all the others did. It’s the grin and eyes. It’s a horrible grin.
“They look angry and pretty terrifying. It’s certainly not how they usually are.
"I can’t understand how they ended up like that. It must be something at the factory.”
The pair have now recovered from their spud shock.

Laura, from Elstree, Herts, said: “We’ve got over it now. Even my daughter has found the funny side.
"I can’t see this putting her off though. She’s too big a fan.”
She added: “With everything going off in the world at the moment it has ended up putting a smile on our faces.”
