Dartford Crossing: M25 traffic chaos as idiots climb bridge & say theyll be up for a DAY with two

NUISANCE protesters have forced police to close the Dartford Crossing this morning after two idiots scaled the bridge.

The chaos has sparked traffic carnage with two hour delays and six miles of tailbacks in both directions from The QEII Bridge on the M25.

Essex Police said they received a report shortly before 3.50am on Monday morning that "two people had climbed onto the bridge and are currently at height".

The force added: "The bridge has been closed while we resolve the incident which we will do as quickly and as safely for all involved.

"It does mean that we have had to close the bridge to traffic."

Environmental campaigners Just Stop Oil - who have carried out multiple protests in recent weeks - claimed responsibility for the madness.

Terrifying video from the scene shows two figures clinging to suspension wires hundreds of feet up on the bridge earlier this morning.

Dozens of emergency service vehicles can be seen below the daft activists who are at a chilling 84 metres high.

In a statement this morning the group vowed to cling on for "24-hours".

A bonkers video from one of the protesters, a teacher from London called Marcus shows the pair high above the M25 calling on the government to end oil use.

Just Stop Oil said the 33-year-old is up there with bridge designer Morgan Trowland, 39, also from London.

The group said the two nuts got up there by climbing masts on the North side of the bridge.

The protesters were earlier hanging from ropes attached to the wires and have unfurled a banner which reads "just stop oil".

And one of the nuts was spotted in a hammock suspended between the wires.

A source told The Sun on Monday that Essex Police have despatched a "specialist team" to safely remove the protesters.

An ambulance was reported stuck in traffic at the scene as vehicles tailed back for miles.

Meanwhile frustrated motorists honked their horns, revved their engines and shouted out “come on” as the sea of cars slowly edged toward the crossing.

'RIDICULOUS'

Oliver Tite, a 25-year-old from Dartford, Kent, was trying to get to Essex for a job interview, the lift engineer said: “It’s ridiculous and It’s a pain for everyone.

“I’m late for a job interview, I probably won’t make it, but I’ll just have to wait and see.

“It’s the protestors choice to be up there, so why don’t we make them deal with the consequences?”

And one furious commuter tweeted: "Dartford crossing closed, Blackwall Tunnel closed, spent a hour trying to get in, turned around and binned it, South East drivers stay in your bed."

National Highways confirmed traffic on the southbound A282 carriageway has also been closed as a result of the police incident.

Southbound traffic is being diverted via the East Bore Tunnel, they added.

Police warned the incident may take some time to resolve due to the complexities of safely getting people down from height.

And they said commuters should consider taking other routes.

The A282 Dartford Crossing is currently the only way to cross the Thames east of London by road.

The 2.8km-long (1.7 mile) QEII bridge southbound, and two 1.4km-long (0.8 mile) tunnels northbound link Essex and Kent.

The A282 also connects directly at both ends with the M25 London Orbital Motorway, one of the busiest motorways in Europe.
