YOU can have a punt on almost anything at the races these days - but the likelihood of anyone backing a SHEEP to invade the track is very low. But that is exactly what happened at Sedgefield Racecourse on Thursday.
The races were interrupted on Thursday after a daring sheep invaded the track and evaded a number of desperate attempts to capture it.
Sheepherders did try to ferry it towards the pen where it had come from, but after failing to find a way through the sheep turned back towards the track and continued its disruptive behaviour.

A WOMAN in her 30s has died after her car left the road and crashed into a lorry transporter parked in a layby.
The fatal collision occurred around 1.20am this morning on the A120 near the Hare Green junction.
The woman, who was driving a Ford Galaxy, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Nobody else was injured in the crash.

After a snap of the Disney inspired sweet treat was posted in Facebook group 'That's It I'm Cake Shaming,' others were quick to comment - with some even cruelly dubbing it “the worst cake” they’d ever seen.

HUNDREDS of human-sized jellyfish have been spotted lurking around the Cornish coast in the past few days.
Marine experts have said that there have been more sightings of these gigantic creatures this week than in the last 15 years.
Lizzie Daly, a biologist with Wild Ocean Week, said that the animal she came into contact with during a dive in Falmouth was the same size as her.
Barrel jellyfish are the largest species of jellyfish found in British waters, with a diameter of up to 90cm and weights of up to 35 kilos.
